Michael Katagaya is a Ugandan social entrepreneur and civic-tech innovator. He is the co-founder and team leader of Evidence and Methods Lab (EML). This initiative promotes transparency, accountability, and social justice in Uganda by simplifying, visualising, and sharing key legal and public finance information. He is also the founder and director of Makanila.com, an e-commerce platform that connects vehicle owners with a network of vetted automotive service providers and products. Currently, Michael is a 2025–2026 Obama Scholar at Columbia University in New York City.

Being admitted as a Ford Global Fellow means Michael will be part of a team of 72 Global Fellows who will be cracking their minds to find practical solutions to inequalities across the globe. The 72 Fellows are a pool of Fellows from two cohorts; the inaugural 2020 Fellows who are 24 in number and the remaining 48 Fellows are from the 2021 intake.

Many people are investing in unconventional parenting and education. Also tech/acceleration hubs like Hive Colab, Outbox, The Innovation Village Kampala, Design Hub Kampala etc are trying to support young entrepreneurs, and they need to be supported to do more.
